About Jerome Rand:
Jerome Rand grew up in Northern Michigan, teaching sailing on small inland lakes, completing a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, and later venturing out on yacht deliveries from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. On one trip to the BVI he was introduced to the Bitter End Yacht Club and found himself working with the watersports center for the next 9 years, where his dream to sail around the world took shape.
On a small budget, he purchased a classic Westsail 32 and began a life-changing journey. Setting out from Gloucester, Massachusetts on October 3rd, Jerome Rand set sail aboard his boat for what would be a 271 day sail and the adventure of a lifetime. The journey tested every limit, both mentally and physically. In the end it was perseverance and a bit of luck that would see this small boat through some of the world's most dangerous seas.
Jerome wrote a book about his circumnavigation and also produced a series of children's books on his experience. Jerome hosts a weekly podcast sharing his life as a full-time sailor and interviewing fascinating sailors from around the world. Jerome also trains and coaches sailors getting started in the sport, and leads inspirational and educational talks for schools, clubs and corporate events.
